INADEQUATE SECURITY AT GOA MEDICAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL I have been a frequent visitor to GMC for the last 4 months as my wife was unwell and we had to visit different OPDs and the Physiotherapy department regularly.
I noticed that whenever I had to drop her off, the security staff was of no help to me. My wife cannot walk, and it is quite difficult to find a convenient parking spot. The management was supposed to formulate parking facilities but till now parking at GMC is a million dollar lottery and most of the time we were told to park outside the campus on the roadside. Even when I parked in the disorganized 'parking' area, I've found myself blocked in because parking spots are not identified and people park haphazardly without thinking about how others can get out later. If a security guard stays in this area there's a jam at the entrance and if he's at the entrance there's a mess in the parking. A lose-lose situation. It is even difficult to drop my wife off in her wheel chair because vehicles are parked in non-parking areas and drop off zones are partially or fully blocked. We need to turn our vehicles and mostly either GMC buses other vehicles or staff vehicles block our path. I made several complaints to the GMC office, but no solution has been found. The security when approached say they cannot tell doctors to move their vehicle from non parking zones. Therefore it is of no use increasing security in GMC as the present one is inadequate and highly irresponsible. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane now plans to appoint more security at GMC, but this will not only create chaos but also will put burden/ loss to Government exchequer. The present security could be trained or instructed to perform better and also the staff of GMC including doctors and Consultants should be requested to cooperate with the security personnel perhaps through issuing a Circular in this matter. Also it is very essential to finalize the parking plans for visitors, doctors, nursing staff and students to park their vehicles, with properly marked slots, exits and sufficient trained staff to see that order is maintained.
