Unfortunately, the people of Iran have suffered under both, the Shah and since
1979, the Ayatollahs. They say
"The people get the Government they deserve".. I don't believe it is
realistically true. More so in this case.....
Iranians are some of the nicest people around....
The Shah was imposed on the Iranians by the West....
Perhaps, when they supported the Mullahs, they did not know as to what they
were getting into. They have
all the resources to be rich and prosperous, but both the Shah and the
Ayatollahs have been using them to advance their agendas! Sad really....
In general, all of the Middle East is a mess...

From: Roland Francis

Wonder what Iran would look today if: The Shah was more sensitive to his
people?s needs than to western demands.
Savak was not let loose on political rebels and dissidents with torture and
killing behind the scenes.

The 2500th anniversary of Cyrus The Great was not celebrated in Persepolis a
city in the desert with royals and chiefs of States from 80 countries that cost
680 million in 1975 dollars.

GL responds:
If the 680 million was spent in the country, the money became part of the local
economy and the ripple effect made its way to the common folks.
That expenditure is better than spending the same on 2 F-10 jet fighters.
