In recent months there have been news reports of police action against trafficking of women for commercial sex and many of these cases are found in the villages of Goa. The ability of the traffickers to base themselves in the villages is possible due to the demand for sexual services by the domestic & foreign tourists as well as the poor awareness levels amongst the community about the modus operandi of these criminals. The continued operation of the Escort Services Websites offering college girls and house wives as Call Girls in Goa is also an important factor to boost the demand for commercial sex by domestic & foreign tourists. GWF is distressed to see the inaction and failure of the Goa Government to shut down the Escort Service Websites which continue to advertise the services of college girls and house wives as Call Girls in Goa despite the concern expressed by the Governor of Goa Smt. Mridula Sinha at a high level meeting of officials held at Raj Bhavan on 14th March this year. During the month long campaign GWF volunteers will approach Panchayats & Municipal Councils to inform them of how their villages and towns have been targeted by the Escort Service Websites to promote their Call Girl commercial sex business. GWF will seek the intervention of the MLA's on this important issue during the forthcoming Goa Legislative Assembly Session to demand that the Goa Govt. shuts down these Escort Service Websites. GWF will also seek the intervention of the Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha MPs from Goa during the forthcoming session of Parliament to take this important matter to the Union Home Minister and Union Tourism Minister so that the Govt. of India sends out a strong message on World Tourism Day that they will not tolerate Sex Tourism in Goa. GWF will petition the respective District authorities to conduct Sensitization Programs at the Taluka level for Gram Sabha members, elected representatives, mahila mandals, consumer forums and faith based groups on how to Combat Human Trafficking for Commercial Sex. ---------------------------------------------
