Very useful for me and all other smartphone users using the Google Maps app for
directions.

For areas where you expect no broadband connection for example
due to tall structures in urban areas or in mountain terrain or wherever else
signals are not available, you can use Google Maps offline if you have
downloaded the map for the local area beforehand when you had internet
connectivity.

Download a map to use offline on IPhone and IPad:
Step 1: On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app.
Step 2: Make sure you're connected to the Internet and signed in to Google Maps.
Step 3: Search for a place, like Jaipur.
Step 4: At the bottom, tap the name or address of the place and then tap More.
Step 5: Select Download offline map

Download a map to use offline on an Android device:
Step 1: On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app.
Step 2: Make sure you're connected to the Internet and signed in to Google Maps.
Step 3: Search for a place, like Jaipur.
Step 4: At the bottom, tap the name or address of the place and then tap More.
Step 5: Select Download offline map
After you download a map, use the Google Maps app just like you normally would.
If your Internet connection is slow or absent, Google Maps will use your
offline maps to give you directions.
