A little more than a cursory glance into cyberspace reveals that while the
Formalin Fish scandal is only just breaking out in Goa, it is well known all
along south India’s west and east coasts. In fact fish from these harbours were
discovered and banned from North-East States which having little fish of their
own, but having the taste for it, imports much of their consumption.

Goa blames Kerala, who blames Mangalore port where the largest catch in India
is landed, who in turn blames those who are blaming them.

This is a bigger problem than one imagined. Those playing a role are renegade
fishermen cutting costs, (which is all fishermen other than shallow water
trawlers), lax enforcement of rules and very high demand butting against low
supplies.

God help the innocent fish eaters.
