HORENDOUS ACTS OF MOBOCRACY AND LYNCHING Ever since the vigilantes were unleashed as Gaurakshas with State and police conivance, mob and street justice escalated and reached horendous proportions with lynchings of mainly dalits and minority community, with no action from the authorities, excepy maybe a "we condemn the action" and a deafenning silence from the Prime and Home Ministers! The matter finally reached the Supreme Court which has come down heavily on the government and directed Parliament to enact a law to prevent and check mobocracy and lynching! The bench headed by the Chief Justice said "In times of chaos and anarchy, the state has to act positively and responsibly to safeguard and secure the constitutional promises to its citizens. Intolerance and growing polarization cannot be permitted to become a normal way of life. Preventive, remedial and punitive measures to be put in place to deal with mob violence and cow vigilantism or any other vigilantism of any perception does not take place". They also said they felt compelled to reflect whether a great republic like ours has lost the values of tolerance to sustain a diverse culture! Coming from the Apex court, I trust the BJP government constantly living in denial and being in the majority bulddozing its way with scant respect for the courts and democratic institutions being dismantled/taken over, some heed will be paid and action taken to prove Sashi Taroor taunt of turning India into a Hindu Pakistan will be seen by all in this nation to be wrong. The no confidence motion in Parliament will rely on Modi's oratory skills. I hope the Opposition uses facts, figures and proof so government cannot live in denial and convincing others of non reality accidently on purpose!
