The Committee to clear applications for government welfare schemes include
Leader of the Opposition, Director of Social Welfare, Director of Women and
Child Welfare which I understand, places faith in MLAs recommendation. We have
CAG pointing out lapses in implementation and Ex Chief Minister Parsekar
calling to recover losses and action against fake beneficiaries and MLAs
recommending them! Welfare schemes are generally a political ploy to
reward/bribe voters and as Parsekar says "It is sad to see government exchequer
being looted by fake beneficiaries". The excuse given in the DSSS flaws was due
to software flaws! It is reported that the CM has ordered a suryey of all
beneficiaries of all welfare schemes by December 2018 and future cheaters will
face criminal cases. Will the present defaulters and benefactor MLAs face the
law/be punished? The courts are overburdened and the executive in full command!
The central government having made a mess of the reservations issue, attempting
taking away people's right to privacy and trying to curb freedom of speech,
passing laws to nullify Supreme Court decisions, the NRC exercise in Assam,
all actions based on vote bank politics is a dangerous game which the nation is
being subjected to! Some more laws will be passed to punish rape and lynchings,
but nothing much done to prevent them from hapenning? What is worse is the
communalization and religious polarization in full swing. The last bastion
Supreme Court is under attack and a weak Opposition bodes ill for our democracy
which seems to be morphing into a mobocracy?
