The Goan electorate opted for a fractured mandate.
Though polling day was peaceful, a couple of bones had
to bear the brunt the following day. This election
verdict may even change the destiny and destination of
the long grounded River Princess.
In only 19 of Goas 40 assembly constituencies the
winners polled over 50% of the total votes cast. In
Marcaim however Mr. Sudin Dhavlikar topping the list
with 63% of the votes polled had a very clear mandate
while in Santa Cruz, Mandrem and Mayem the winners
found favour with a mere 35% of those who exercised
their franchise.
It also has to be observed that all the six
politicians blacklisted by the so called secular NGO's
found favour with the electorate.
The new elected legislators will now have to exercise
their political skills and judiciously work for the
entire constituency by keeping the bitterness of the
election campaign behind them.
Goa cannot afford to remain fractured, neither can we
afford another election. With a couple of bandages and
a tanker of fevicol these 40 legislators will have to
stay glued and complete their full term.
