A new dawn of Independence day celebrations brings new hopes for millions of Indians ,WITHOUT a roof over their head, clean drinking water,, toilets, food or clothes When will these teeming multitudes of Indians see the twilight ray of fulfillment in their lives?, 72 years are long enough in the life span of lucky Indians, who may be b fortunate enough to survive the ordeals of life. The celbrations will speak eloquently of measures adopted to ameliorate their sufferings, but these speech diets every year after year do not fill empty stomachs on an Independent day .The progress has not touched many living a bonded life of ignorance, and deprivity .They are out of heath services, education, housing, M Ghandhi said that unless the benefits reach the poorest of poor. of Indians, it is no progress and development. Much has been done, but much remains to be done, and quickly. There are islands of development, scientific advancement of going to moon and mars and beyond. But down here on earth the poor are crying for basic needs, The politicians turn millionars and billionars every year, Their concern is lips service, more prominent during elections and they then go into hibernation till next elections. They overlook and even may be hand iin gloves of enriching themselves from the fat of the poor, denying them what is legeitimately their dues and meant for them. Imagine the cattle are even depriived of fodder, that is the level the politicians dare to stoop with impunity. The schemes of poverty aleviation do not react, the marginalised , inspite of addhhar card security. The advantages meant for the poor, illiterate are devoured by well to do.The NGO,s other welfare organisations do their bit to reach them, but are often accused, denigrated with motives of selfishness Every Govt that is propelled to power uses the same cliches WELFARE of masses.Govt of the poor , by poor for poor. These slogans continue and will continue for anther 100 years. The illiterate are not able to demanfd their rights and if they do individually or collectively they are beaten to pulp by various subbtle ways of silencing them Yes India has come a long way ,since the British left us orphaned and broken in every sense .But it does not augur well for Indians to live on laurels of present glory alone in comparison of the past. Housing for poor, food for the hungry, clothing for the naked, work for the able, education for all and right to live with dignity and honour as humans, as different from cattle class must get priority and monitored at evry step of implementation. Porosity of resources on the way dissipates the well indtended benefits that must filter down at all times and under all circumstances Only when the last of the marginalised Indian is free from ignorance and economic deprivation to live in dignity like a human, will Independence become meaningful ,joyous celbrations in which every Indian will proudly raise his head Everyone int their position can act to make this reality in their own way .Putting he onus on Govt alone will no do.Be a vigilant Indian to demand Govt with resources to act responsibly and be made accountable That day,a 15 August................ ? will be the happy Independence day for all Indians yet to born Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
