I wonder if anyone with Uganda connections would be able to help regarding
an enquiry I've received re. Alfred Lobo, a photographer who opened a studio
in Entebbe in the early 1900s, which later moved to Kampala. Apparently,
Alfred entered Government service in Entebbe in 1908, and according to
Macmillan started commercial photographic business in Kampala in 1922.
However, Lobo appears to have been a practising photographer in the early
1900s , and his photographs appear in Playne's 'East Africa' and several of
the photographs in the RCS collection date pre-1910. He is also referred to
as "A. Lobo, Locomotive Department Uganda Railways, listed in the Red Book
of East Africa(1904)
My enquirer is desperate to find out more about Lobo and, if possible, to
trace some living descendants. He is also keen to hear of any Goans who may
have worked in the railways and have had interest in photography.
I realize this is a 'tall order', and that many on goanet were not even
born during the period in question, but if anyone with Uganda connections
can help, I'd be most grateful to pass this information on to the individual
concerned.
Many thanks.
