As many more of us are trying to choose between cremation and burial here is a
relevant story.

According to  India Today, Karunanidhi was buried at Marina Beach in Tamil Nadu.
"The last rites are widely believed as part of the dead person's religious
belief while living. Barring exception, Hindus are cremated while Christians
and Muslims are buried. The last rights of atheists are generally performed in
accordance with the practice adopted in the family and community."It seems
Muthuvel Karunanidhi who was known as Kalaignar "was an atheist like all the
big leaders of the Dravidian movement." He was a colossal figure in Tamil Nadu
politics for nearly 50 years. He became the chief minister of Tamil Nadu in
1969. He assumed leadership of the DMK the same year and headed the party till
his death on August 7, 2018.
"All the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu are buried at Marina Beach, so
Karunanidhi had to be buried there as well.A cremation would seemingly diminish
Karunanidhi's stature after his death. Burial would be Karunanidhi's final
resting place, from where the DMK politics could take off in post-Kalaignar
period."
