Pacreatic cancer Pancreatic cancer is making headlines, because two BJP Ministers are purportedly afflicted with unconfirmed reports of illness. Both are undergoing specialized treatment in London and USA. The Govt, funding their treatment maintains a veil of secrecy, but it is an open secret as to their sickness The people are concerned because in their absence the administration is grounded, Remote control and indecision leads to paralysis of Govt functions
Causes The exact causes are not known, but some risk factors are speculated Damage to DNA or inherited or mutated genes that cause abnormal cell division The risk factors presumed to be associated are long standing diabetes, smoking, cyst and obessity Types, The pancreas produce enzymes and hormones Endocrine pancreas produces enzymes, The malfunction cause tumours and exocrine pancreaes produces hormones 98% of pancreatic cancers are aedonocarcinoma symptoms The pancreatic cancer spreads most rapidly (Adenocarcinoma) and detected only in the final stages. when it is spread and there is no cure.If detected at early stage the survival rate is 20% If it is localised with surgery survival is 10 months and in final stages the patient may last up to 5 months In case excocrine cancer which are rare and less fatal, the survival rate may vary between 1 to 5 years The symptoms in Endocrine cancer are abdominal pain,weight loss, jaundice, diabetes, back pain, vomiting and nausea etc which are not very specific signs It is only when the cancer spreads rapidly it may invade liver ,block duodenum It will travel through blood and infect stomach, spleen, intestine and lymph nodes , thus creating multiple organ damage beyond treatment It is not detected early as abnormal growth in abdomen has larger space to accommodate it without raising any alarm bells as patients do not seek medical advice and doctors can also fault on the diagnosis Treatment Chemotherapy, Radiation which are not curative measures,In theearly stage, surgery may extend life.
