Evolution of P.C.Trust
The inspiration was promoted by friends, nicknamed sarcastically as SUNSET
COMRADES, It includes Cyril Pereira, Esmeraldo Gomes,Vivian Almeida,
Constance D` Costa , Olavo Cotta, Carmo Lopes and me, who regularly met in the
evenings. An unregistered Organisation "Chinchiim Awards and Scholarship"
was established in late sixties .Christmas Raffle was planned to raise funds
to award cash prize to each student at SSC in all the 3 schools. A letter of
appreciation and Rs 50/ distributed from the proceeds. To- day Trust issues
designer Certificates with cash. A photo is printed with the profiles on the
reverse.The other Awards then were in Science/Social Science ,Konkanni (A.V.C),
Fr Oscar award by Chinchinim Villagers, Text Book fund through` donors. Teacher
award and Scholarships by Dr. Viberto Mascarenhas till completion of Science
Degree Course, The dispersion of friends made continuation of the project
difficult. The funds in deposit over ten years were Rs 25000/. The formulation
of new schemes, raising of funds thorough donations became solely my
responsibility and I pursued with determination
The organisation was Registered as P.C.Trust {People of Chinchinim Trust) in
2006.The founder Trustees NelsonLopes, Fidelis Pereira,Cypriano Lopes, Leena
Lopes Sorenson Gracias, Two founder Trustees passed away another two resigned
for personal reasons. There is provision to co opt two more Trustees, but not
many are willing to shoulder responsibility.Presently the Trustees are Leena
Lopes, Wilfred Mascarenhas, Kennedy Agusto Pereira, Shodan Verlekar and myself
The intention of the Trust was to reduce migration of Village students to the
city through incentives. The schools were struggling to maintain strength.
First student claims around 50-60 thousands in awards at SSC. Students from the
village studying elsewhere often inquire of their eligibility.It is difficult
to infer conclusively whether cash incentives have achieved the purpose, but
S.M.A in particular has produced Rank Holders in SSC, Std XII, Arts/Science.
and graduate level. Admission is not off the shelf, sometimes it is very
difficult, if not enrolled early. Cash incentives are certainly an
attraction,inducements and serves as special, exclusive feature of Chinchinim
Village. The appreciation from donors, beneficiaries, parents, schools and
society make our endeavour worthwhile and purposeful
Schemes.and awards at SSC
There are a number of awards in each category, mostly sponsored and others
founded by contributions.
1-First, Second, Third Students, First and second in subjects, First Boy ,Girl
and also in ChinchinimDeussua Panchayat Area.
2- First( student,Boy, Girl, Konkanni) in A.V.C Villages,First student in
A.V,C.C, First student at Rosary,H.S Navelim, First in Science at Guardian
Angel H. S, Curchorem, Hence the Trust is operating awards beyond the
geographical borders of Chinchinim Village
3-- Teacher awards, for Pre Primary, Primary, Secondary,and Headmaster. Besides
4 teachers each from 16 DSE schools are honoured annually. Corporation Bank.
Bank of Maharashtra, HDFC Chihinim are sponsoring one teacher each since 2011
5-Sports awards each for all 3 schools annually in Football, Volleyball, Hockey
, Basket ball, Athletics, Chess, Music' Best sport Boy and Girl
6- Scholarships for permanent residents of Chinchinim Village including
Dramapur and Sirlim till completion of Degree Course Science, Medicine,
Engineering and Commerce
7... Dedicated Aid Funds....For A-SchoolText Books, B-Medicine C- School
Uniforms, D- Deserving Elders etc
For the first time the Trust has shifted from academic excellence to promoting
deserving students and donors have contributed Rs.42500/ for the first year of
2 yrs post graduate Course at Goa University. Efforts continue
The logos of Trust a- Trust logo, Science, Social Science were designed by
late Fr Olavo Velho Pereira, b- Sports logo The recipients must compulsorily
express gratitude to donors, The donors are provided with copies of materials,
reciepts
for their records .Donations to the Trust enjoy 50% deduction in Income tax
under 80 G. The Trust has published 3 souvenirs giving details etc Trust has
also prepared 4 hand bound magazines of individuals. The Schemes and activities
of P.C.Trust were featured for the first time by Gomantak Times and through
the efforts of Trust also featured a deserving and outstanding student in
Gomantak Times in 2018 June/July
The efforts of Trust continues to enhance the value of existing awards and to
add new ones for the encouragement .The social and print media is used to give
publicity to the recipients, donors as more important public recognition
