The sudden and very untimely death this morning of Goa Human Rights Commission member Mr. J.A Keny comes as a major setback to the struggle for ensuring Human Rights in the now lawless State of Goa.
Over the last many years I have had the occasion of interacting with him on various issues pertaining to violation of Human Rights. Mr. Keny was always very concerned and proactive in combating the infringement of Human Rights and was always ever so positive in his approach. A very simple, affable and down to earth soul he always was. A retired banker, Mr. Keny was earlier member of the Goa Public Service Commission. May his departed soul rest in eternal peace. With the demise of Mr. Keny, the Goa Human Rights Commission which has been functioning without a Chairman for the last over two years now stands further crippled. And with the Goa Government itself in a current state of comatose, constituting the much required fully fledged Human Rights Commission will be its last concern. So it will now be ‘Acche din’ for violators of Human Rights.
