CONTROLLING ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES
Our lawmakers are behaving like Maharajas and enforce laws that no civilised
democratic nation should have under the guise of security or controlling
corruption. However they will not ensure that no tickets are given to criminals
and tainted candidates! The loosely worded National Securities Act (NSA) and
deadly Sedition Laws are misused by government to arrest/jail anyone who the
governemnt wants to shut up/disagrees with or get rid of with impunity. Give
them half a chance and they will misuse power like for example Aadhar
imposition and expansion, diluting people's right to security/privacy, without
proper infrastructure for safe implementation, resulting in starvation deaths
and untold miseries for the people! It is high time we all agree to tell
government the following, briefly: 1) Rules must be made both for Centre and
States that absentism of any Minister for more than three months automatically
results in removal from post. Long medical illness reimbursed only if treated
in government hospitals/in India! Details of medical expenditures to be
available on government sites. Scrap their current health care system to
participate in same health care system as the indian people 2) They have to
generally abide by all laws imposed on the indian people 3)Serving in
Parliament is an honor, not lucrative career. Retirement age should be fixed.
They are public servants paid from the exchequer and must come under RTI 4) Pay
should be revised by the Central Pay Commision and not permitted voting for
themselves as at present 5) Transparency and accountability required. Financial
losses incurred/ attributed to politicians in office must be recovered from
them 6) Mindset of "Lal Batti" superiority must be removed practically on the
ground so we can all see and feel the difference. This is the very least we can
all unitedly canvas for as a start in public interest?
