CAMPAIGN AROUND NATIONALISM Anuja Cjauhan in her column "Shizo Nation" rightly chastises us as a hypocritical nation. We build Immense statues to personalities whose ideals we forget, but whose names we continually invoke. The government will now want the people to postpone "acche din" , suffer high prices in petrol and essential commodities, high pollution levels,cattle on the roads/gaushallas (one state even having a Cow Ministry), cash strapped Air India owed by government to the tune of Rs1146.86 crores(reported RTI information) for VIP charter flights only and so on! I do not see any government orders to curb use of government vehicles or transport/entertainment expenses. There is big increase in advertisements, media and propaganda expenditure, not to mention expenses in organizing huge crowds at government melas and misuse of government machinery.The PM and the BJP want to turn the heat on the Opposition by goading the people to appreciate their zero tolerence for corruption, security concerns and nationalism! "Every rupee spent should benefit the needy, the very basics of my government is Human Rights" thunders the PM! All the grandoise propaganda comes to naught when I suffer the administration failures and see the picture of hutments razed and a woman sitting under a small umbrella in the hot sun with her kids inthe debris!
