Women are unclean and impure The S,C has ruled that women irrespective of age criteria are entitled to enter to worship at Sabrimala shrine. Until the ruling is overridden by an appeal, it is the rule of the land. The right to appeal in no way negates the order. The dissidence, defiance, intimidation, physical obstruction is no answer. The Govt. failure to implement the order in letter and spirit, speaks of covert support to the protesters and dangerous precedent that bodes ill for democracy
The S.C has emphatically stressed the right enshrined in the constitution against discrimination and is not related to religious interference. The tradition and custom of debarring women of menstruating age is a belief propagated over ages and change, deviation seems unpalatable and unacceptable to male dominated majority in this age of liberation, equal rights and emancipation of women. The threat to close the temple is to circumvent the order of S.C is ill advised. The law and order is no alibi not to enforce the ruling and incompetence of the ruling party is shameful. The political parties are playing to the gallery with an eye on election. The laws of inheritance, adultery. Sati, divorce , widow remarriages, female infanticide, evil of dowry are weighing heavily on women rights and have been passively accepted over the years without resistance that matters. Why women are considered impure and unclean is beyond comprehension of sound reasons. The famous religious founders like Jesus, Mohamed, Mahavir, Guru Nanak, Gautam Budha were born of women and did not become impure. So does all of us being born of women do not undergo process of physical purification. Bible has special reference to creation of women as the most worthy companion for men. Pollution of the mind and lust is the most worrisome aspect. Our birth through women makes us what we are.. The rules of exclusion are man made to subjugate, dominate women have gone unchallenged and that does not justify continuation in the name of custom or tradition alone .Those who declare women as impure, should vow never to marry one and remain celibate to maintain purity of mind and body. We would have no sisters, brothers without women and procreation would come to standstill .Imagine such scenario in the process of civilization of mankind . Women as the mother thus enjoys the role of a creator , who can never be substituted or replaced. That menstruating women are polluting the temple is bankrupt attitude of mind, ignoring the natural bodily process with a purpose. Do women pollute our homes, work place, food, children in homes etc and are excluded during period as untouchables. What is most deplorable and certainly unclean is the annul , oral and sex during menstruating period. devadasi system around temples, child marriages, rapes.
