Dear Friends
Itis unbelievable but true; in the long past Portugal had never seen special
programsof the famous and secular art of the Indiandancing, the “Bharatnatyam”
(Dance of India)

Butnow the socio-political-cultural policies in Portugal have changed and
something which would be banned duringthe Salazar dictatorship which
permittedonly Fado and Futebol is opened to what is worth in other countries
specially India for the delight of the Portuguese People.

Thisdecision is what I will call a Tit-for-Tatas some years back and after
Liberation,we here in Panjim in our Kala Academywitnessed the unforgettable
singer of the Fado, the unique Amália Rodrigues who with twoguitarists
delighted the packed hall.

Kudos to our Embassy in Lisbon forthis unique initiative which may even lead
some organization in Portugal to have a Escola Da Dança Indiana, wherethe
Portuguese damsels and Youngman  learn this unique item of the Indian culture.

Wedo have the programs of the Fundação DoOriente of “Vamos Cantar” andalso its
Monte Music Festivals… butin the Old Goa when Goans wouldprefer that they had
been done in the last leg of the steps leading to the Panjimchurch when
thousands of people would be able to see while the TV’s of Goa broadcastand
will be seen in Portugal and as done in Old Goa, some items of religiousnature
could be held in the Church itselfwhich has optimum acoustic conditions
but…With tickets to control de crowd which will feel the Church to the brim…

I would like to suggest to the Govt. Of Portugal (now with a Goan as its Prime
Minister, Dr. Antonio Da Costa, that Portuguese music ensembles like… Erica
Buettner, Joana Carneiro, Pedro Cazanova, Armando José Fernandes, Maria de
Lourdes Martins, Salvador Sobral, Sara Tavares, Armando Teixeira (musician),
Carlos Zingaro… Coro da universidade de Coimbra, and the dancers of Portuguese
Ballet...  should be sent to the musical centres of India (New Delhi, Calcutta,
Bangalore, Goa(Panjim & Margao)) and Bombay and for the benefit of thousands of
Goans in Lisbon, one ofthe Konkanni Tiatr groups may besent to saciate the
“saudades”, the Goemkarponn of theirs so far fromtheir beloved Goa. and also
the Goan nightingale Lata Mangueshkar, singingfor the delight of Goan specially
her beautiful songs in Amchi Bhas, The Konkanni Bhas and which will end with
the traditional…
