Traffic control
The massive drive against traffic violators is unprecedented. It appears that
the Govt is concerned about safety of road users The cash strapped Govt is
garnering revenues under guise of rigorously enforcing rule of law The daily
targets set for traffic police with threats of severe punishment has let the
cat out of bag
Citizens expect to check overcrowding of buses, time schedule, but the emphasis
is on uniforms, pollution certificates et al,To circumvent passenger tax, owners
have pressed mini buses that are loaded twice over leading to discomfort and
undermining safety
Priority is not on maintaining roads , widening, lighting, removing dangerous
bends, overhanging branches, immediate repairs of potholes, clearing of
overgrown grass etc unfortunately the person who promised Rs 1000/ for one
is himself in hell hole While all resources are poured in Mandovi and Zarina
bridges the necessary maintenance had taken a back seat The Govt is milking the
so-called traffic violators to the hilt sending the messsage that deaths on
roads, accidents are causes related to so called violations of rules of driving
The excessive drive is clearly a ploy to increase revenues
