Celebrating The Feast of St. Francis In Real Style Goans in Tanzania like their counterparts in all, except one continent celebrated the Feast of St Francis Xavier. In Goa this celebration have taken place for well over 400 years. The Goans in Mainland Tanzanian have a unique history. Rene Baretto, a fellow classmate started the whole World Goa Day Movement
On August 20, 2000 *Rene Barreto*, whose vision in promoting *World Goa Day* was to unite the *Goan* associations on this *day*, spearheaded a movement to bring Goans together on a *global* level.Aug 25, 2018 We started in St Josephs Cathedral …..the Services were conducted by Fr. Mario Dias (OFCap) and his Homily was brief and to the point about .faith, perseverance et….notwithstanding that he did not mention the crab incidence. We then moved to the Dar es Salaam Institute or to give it its original name Goan Institute ….yes designed by non other than Anthony Almeida (ARIBA) the winner of the King Klaus Prize for being the best Architect in Africa. *Third:*, The President of SXS, Savio Fernandes and his team, which included several relatives mother in law, (MiLs) SiLs and Bils and nieces and nephews and all the numerous non relatives. …Maybe there were close to 400 people…..So Thank you Savio and all the others *Fourth Volunteers*: And where would we be without all volunteers in their lemony green vests ….Diamond nearly a dozens assisting but if called could be part of the Rapid Response Unit. As a Disaster Management Person I think it is so important that we have these volunteers ….are there any Girl Volunteers….Diana Carvalho and Michel aelan * Fifth: Talent Show: * I was dazed by the talents….little girls, teeny boppers and teenagers, w impression or are there more Girls and boys in Dsma? *Sixth: Goan Cuisine >*Name it …it was there starting ..yes there was sorpatel I nearly missed it thinking it was a dish of beans ….Some was put on my plate ….a taste and I said to myself Bella has a rival …*I was told that Bella Gonsalves and her husband were the architect ….no wonder I did not see them* … they had to work hard Bella as I told you before your sorpetal are special .. Thank you both and Dorothy *Seven: Goans are Indians*: Adding to the huge diversity of India Two important members Dinesh and Ruparlia (Secretary & Chairman respectively of TADA (Tanzania Asian Dev lopment Association ) were there…..as was the *Cultural Officer from the Indian High Commission* …..Yes in more than one ways they were sending a very powerful message. I have volunteered to help Yes we should be celebrating g diversity, unity sharing supporting Six hours was a long time for me to be away Home all efforts to get me an uber failed ….Then Pearl my usual Taxi will come in a few minutes …..Pearl, David, Jennifer, Many thanks I felt like I was the most protected person in Tanzania and in the world….Thank you all for calling to find that I was really at home.
