FRIDAY BALCAO to focus on the United Nations Decade of Family Farming 2019-2028 ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------ Friday Balcao the fortnightly discussion event to be held on 14th December will focus on the United Nations Decade of Family Farming 2019-2028. The discussion will be lead by Miguel Braganza, Secretary Botanical Society of Goa(BSG) and Yogita Mehra, founder Green Essentials. The International Year of Family Farming in 2014 succeeded in promoting small holder farming and was able to contribute to achieving food security, improved nutrition and even conserving biodiversity. This set the tone for a UN General Assembly resolution to observe a decade of family farming which would be implemented by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. How can family farms in Goa get the maximum benefit during this decade ? What kind of assistance needs to be provided by the Directorate of Agriculture ? How can Municipal Councils provide incentives to family farming ? How can Village Panchayats integrate family farming in their annual GPDP ? How can kitchen gardeners contribute to activate family farms ? What support is required from Educational Institutions ? These are some of the questions that will be covered in the discussion. Friday Balcao will be from 4pm to 6pm at the Goa Desc Resource Centre No.11 Liberty Apartments, Feira Alta, Mapusa and is open to members of the public.
