Low budget tourist Indian tourists labeled as low budget tourist are officially unwelcomed in Goa as per spokesman for Goan authorities..It is totally uncharitable, undesirable statement to categorize Indians, keeping with image of the state . No other state shares such outlandish opinion. The Goans visiting other states should be treated with such disdain ? It appears that only foreign tourist are welcomed guest in the paradise, called Goa .The economy and tourism is not sustained by those staying in Five star hotels alone, but a wide variety tourists of Indian origin .These tourists are highly conscious of economic factors. They prefer to stay in private residences, buy vegetables, fruits and cook their own meals. Also eat in shacks , restaurants and not in the Hotels, which are unreasonably expensive. In fact foreign tourists are scouting for more economic destination other than Goa and its beaches for their money’s worth .In fact Govt. turns blind eye to foreign tourist running and patronizing their own illegal outlets .True they do not drink in public ,beaches, stay in gardens, cook on streets. litter streets , use open places to relieve themselves, for it is normal practice, way of life, custom to maintain sanctity of public or open paces way back home The foreigners revel in drugs, immodesty, narcotic substances, beach parties, night sales thus polluting the environment and introducing youth to these harmful vices
Indian tourist with low budget must be accommodated reasonably to suit their purse. Hotel accommodation for them is too scarce. and not a priority Our advertisements must portray facts of economic side. Eating is costly too, No provisions for public toilets on a scale demanded by influx and even on beaches, No bins to dispose off garbage .Goa is cheapest destination of alcohol,. attracting hordes of travelers with proliferation of bars far more than the population of Goa, thus encouraging invitation for free consumption. We may detest eating and cooking in open places by roadsides. littering beaches and highways with alcohol bottles, sleeping in gardens, defecating in open, drying clothes on buses. The rules must be in place , enforced in spirit, but at the same time put services in place to accommodate them. It is a fact that Indian tourist contribute substantially to economy of Goa much more than foreigners except in foreign exchange perhaps. I heard a foreign tourist, arguing vehemently with bus conductor for extra Rs 5=on a ticket and on my intervention returned the petty amount. They are well informed about prices and cheating resorted to at various places .In the absence of meters in taxis the foreigners resent being fleeced. There is dip in foreign tourists and beach tourism without proper infrastructure, sexual assault and crimes against women have negative impact on foreign tourist The high rates in hotel tariffs, results in less occupancy even at peak of the season This is a warning signal to so called unsustainable high end tourism Goa for long Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
