BALANCE AND SANITY Mahatma Gandhi had reportedly written in Young India in 1921 "To attempt cow protection by violence is to reduce Hinduism to Satanism". From lynching of cattle traders/people by Gaurakshas on rumour/suspicion of cow trading/killing with State protection, to having police in UP made responsible for taking care of cattle, cattle vans and even cattle ministeries being a government obsession/priority over human beings is shocking. Policemen in uniform seen chasing cows, jumping in nullah to save a cow being thereafter rewarded, government lavish monetary schemes to build sanctuaries and care for cows, cow ambulances and so on whilst beggars on the road and poor families neglected and some allowed to die of starvation is inhuman! When a cop is killed by mobs after a mob instigated by right wing activists turn violent and there is loss of life and property damaged, NSA is aplied to alleged cow slaughterers with priority and not much urgency to investigate/throw the book at those who took the law int their own hands! Popular people's movements are being used by politicians to overpower the law. This is a dangerous phase and with the second revolt reported in the Supreme Court regarding judges supercession this time, the rule of law seems to be in great jeopardy! With the general elections a few months away, nobody seems to be really caring about what we the people really think, want and need! All are battering us with lies and half truths. Opportunistic alliances are being formed. Much arrogance and ego clearly out in the open and.everyone denigrating each other. "Whataboutis" coined phrase for answers to questions evaded by exaggerating mostly to what about the same wrong done decades back by the rival party! That justifies their action? The PM of India (not only BJP) sets the example canvassing for the BJP propounds:"Unlike other parties, we are not in politics to divide and rule or building vote banks. We are here to serve the country in every possible way". The midnight removal of the CBI director, the Supreme Court reinstating him, immediate transfers/retransfers after his removal within 24 hours etc are shameful exhibition of unprincipled serving in every possible way?Denigrate State trying to implement SC decision on Sabrimala temple/instigate devotees whilst passing a second ordinance on tripple talak! Everyone seems to be misleading the electorate by misuse of media and central/government agencies. Elected representatives think they must rule, not serve and take action without any consultation first with those whose lives will be affected or the stakeholders. In Goa this is blatent in the unplanned diversion of traffic due bridge construction and MLAs wanting special medical scheme apart from what is there for the people like a special priveleged class whom they expect us to bow to and cater to their welfare like mararajas of yore. What sort of democracy are we voting for? Where is balance and sanity?
