A few days ago I bought a new pair of shoes on the way to Navelim - an exciting place to be - especially during the feast with all the excitement in the air even though there was no feast on this auspicious day.
When I was a child people would tell me how all roads lead to Rome - now I'm told they say - all roads lead to Navelim. Anyway, the shoes I bought in Navelim a few days ago were not made of leather, and so no cow was slaughtered to make my shoes. I feel good about it, and I'm proud of it. The shoes, of course, don't smell of leather as it is not real leather. They are micro-leather. What is micro-leather? I have no idea but I love my new shoes. Until death do us part! I wonder who will go first, though. For people who are price conscious I need to tell you the price of my new shoes was three hundred rupees. And, the color is brown. Nice printed design, too. The man who sold me the shoes is from Delhi, a very enterprising gentleman. Now, this man has a stall on the roadside on the way to Navelim. His mission in life is to provide shoes for people who are on a budget. I am grateful to him. I am, in fact, so excited about my new pair of shoes I decided to give a party in honor of my new shoes. We decided on squid pulao. It was delicious, made of course by Paru my master chef - a woman. Shiva, my chef's husband and their two children helped me celebrate the occasion. Whenever you buy a new pair of shoes, please give a party in honor of your shoes, and enjoy eating squid pulao. It is an occasion to file away in your unforgettable diary memor. It is, in fact, a deep spiritual awakening. How simple things can make you happy. I'm grateful to the man who sold me the shoes; it is really true nowadays all roads lead to Navelim! Some people may think I'm making an unnecessary fuss about my new pair of shoes. I take umbrage to it. After all, people inform us daily where they were the previous night or what they had for breakfast this morning - and with whom - and so writing about my new pair of micro shoes is not at all unusual, right? Footwear, as you know, are an important part of lifestyles and civilizations. I can recall vividly the story of Cinderella and how her footwear lead her down the road to success and happiness. And, she was not the only one! In my time there was Elvis Presley who sang and danced about his new pair of shoes. They were real leather, though. At the time people were not as enlightened as they are today; they were not aware of the importance of animal rights, and so it was a bad time for cows and other animals as they were slaughtered because a lot of people wanted real leather shoes. Anyway, Elvis Presley was real proud of his leather shoes - Blue Suede Shoes. It became a hit song which made him more than a million dollars - a lot of money at the time. With that kind of money, was Elvis Presley enlightened, after all? I don't know, maybe he was! Anyway, how would you like to be in my shoes?
