Carmona Sports Club scraped past Mormugoa United Cultural and Sports
Club to move to the quarter-finals of the 15th Guirdolim Panchayat Cup
organized by Guirdolim Club and played at Chandor Church ground, on
Friday.
In the 4th minute Cleston Fernandes of Carmona managed to dribble past a
couple of defenders and cross the ball to lanky striker Sydon Furtado
whose powerful header gave no chance to the Mormugao keeper.

Carmona SC scrape into quarters
Carmona Sports Club scraped past Mormugoa United Cultural and Sports
Club to move to the quarter-finals of the 15th Guirdolim Panchayat Cup
organized by Guirdolim Club and played at Chandor Church ground, on
Friday.
The match began on a slow pace with both teams confined to the midfield.
In the 4th minute Cleston Fernandes of Carmona managed to dribble past a
couple of defenders and cross the ball to lanky striker Sydon Furtado
whose powerful header gave no chance to the Mormugao keeper.
Finding themselves a goal down Mormugao slowly found their footing and
started attacking the Carmona goal but their strikers were kept at bay
by the alert Shanon Pereira in the Carmona Goal. In the 10th minute
playmaker Shushant Borker of Mormugao sent in a though pass only for
Vikas Mazumdar to blast over the crossbar with only the keeper at his
mercy.
Sushant Borker and Purithui Chauhan linked up well and fed their
strikers who could not score the equalizer as Carmona defended in
numbers. The score read 1-0 in favour of Carmona at half time.
Crossing ends, Mormugao uped the ante by attacking in numbers and put
Carmona on the back foot. In the 40th minute Elroy Fernandes fed Sushant
Borker who's power packed shot was parried away by the diving Carmona
keeper for a corner. Mormugao almost scored in the 52nd minute when a
corner kick taken by Sushant Borker was headed towards goal by Elroy
Fernandes but Carmona keeper managed to get his finger tips and deflect
the ball over the cross bar.
Hardworking Vikas Mazumdar on the right flank in the 57th minute, after
dribbling past 3 defenders squared the ball to onrushing Harish Gaude
who agonizingly placed the ball wide in front of an open goal. In the
dying minutes of the match Sushant Borker had another opportunity to
level terms but his free kick from top of the box narrowly missed the
target. The match thus ended 1-0 in favour of Carmona SC.
