It is good that by an order issued last evening Govind Pednekar, the very controversial wireless operator of Goa's Director General of Police Dr Muktesh Chander has been transferred.
But there needs to be a detailed probe as to how Govind Pednekar was blatantly liasoning from within the very official residence of the DGP at Althinho in Panaji with the underworld besides those engaged in varied illegal and nefarious activities. The DGP has himself a lot to explain as to how he allowed all this. It could not have reached this awful state without his blessings. To expect his subordinates to be dutiful, DGP Dr Muktesh Chander as head of the Goa Police should have been leading by example in honestly discharging his duties. Unfortunately the DGP has allowed the police force to be acting as agents of the BJP in promoting illegal activities and to target and harass their political opponents. The public have lost faith and trust in the Goa Police as the DGP Dr. Muktesh Chander has miserably failed to ensure independence and integrity in the functioning of his force.
