War memorial with names It just another memorial , which in no way raise the bar of our gratitude and honour to the martyrs
It is an imitation of USA memorial with names etched on black granite marble. The best memorial is at India Gate, which on ceremonious occasion receives revered attention by dignitaries. Some monuments stand as mere sentinels, poorly maintained and lost in importance soon after inauguration. Imagine 25 000 names of brave soldiers, who are just names without connections to their acts of bravery and valour. How long would it take to find out a known name in the list? How many hours to browse, scan through 25K names, if one was interested? Is there a screen provided with moving names. It appears to be misplaced act of just another monument at tax payers’ expense, when all such names must be readily available with defense archives. Is a brochure of names available at sight.? Is it a compliment to the monument of unknown soldier? The political party is boasting of unique act with no practical benefits flowing to the fallen soldiers family or loved ones. What does an unknown name mean to the visitors standing in respect at the foot of the monument ? Is it an outstanding architectural masterpiece which is awe inspiring? Creating hype as unique recognition by a single political party for the first time and for political mileage at public expense is in absolute poor taste. It is the Nation that pays respect to the martyrs for the sacrifices, which would be more elevating thought of nationalism and patriotism rather than limiting and usurping its scope for party credit .There are enough monuments in states and adding one more as more distinct is superfluous, not necessary. Instead improve the conditions of their families and children, provide them facilities to function well, and raise the standards of their living conditions in service. The way our wounded, maimed veterans, retired soldiers have to fend for themselves to get their legitimate dues is a disgrace to speak of Nations gratitude. The pain in the bosoms of fallen soldiers ,in our hearts too is no consolation in action. The way the states vie with each other to offer compensation is shameful because all lives are equally important and treated equally as such .Another monument for all are those rendered invalid in wars may be next in line as their sufferings are no less in comparison Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
