*Out of Context - The Book Club* invites you to a book reading and discussion on “*Love in the Time of Cholera*” by Columbian writer and Nobel Laureate *Gabriel Garcia Marquez*.
Fermina Daza and Florentino Ariza fall in love as teenagers and nurture a relationship via telegraph through their long years of separation. When they meet again in their early twenties, they find they are strangers to each other. Fermina rebuffs Florentino’s advances and instead marries Dr. Juvenal Urbino; obsessed with the idea of eradicating Cholera from his country. Florentino is heartbroken but pledges his eternal fidelity and everlasting love to Fermina and decides to wait. Over the years countless women come and go in Florintino’s life with one constant: his almost obsessive love for Fermina. Now in their seventies, Florintino’s dream of courting Fermina again is within reach when Fermina’s husband dies in a freak accident. Does Florentino succeed in winning back his 'Crowned Goddess’? The novel is an epic ode to romantic love and commitment, and explores everything in between from marriage to infidelity. But more than that the book is about growing old and is told against a rich tapestry of Columbia's checkered history. So save the date and we hope to see you for the reading for an enriching discussion. The book will be presented by Archana Nagvekar. *Date: 16 March 2019* *Time: 6:00 PM* *Venue: Alliance Francaise, H.No 46A, PE Agnelo Rd, Near Menezes Polyclinic, Altinho Panjim Goa.* Open and free to Public
