No politicians of Goan origin has occupied volumes of space in print media and social platform till this date. The social and electronic media is abuzz with curious details and anecdotes recalling his memory. His being on central Ministry of defence has added and enhanced his worth and prestige He remained a simple person in his attire, food habits, friends and by not using the facilities of his designated post at the centre and shunning security and publicity He did travel by air in economy class making friends on his travelAs CM he mingled with the people freely even Driving pillion on bike to some remote places incognito The administration was responding to his call to serve, punctuality and avoid corruption at every step Parikar was man of integrity and credibility but as a politicians he had his compulsions to corner opponents with ulterior motives like any other of his kind and cannot be faulted to that extent He was date Savvy CM. Time bound announcements and worked to meet the target no matter what As the politician he created a band of critics but as a person he earned enormous following of good will with artists, religious and cultural bodies ,sports persons, intellectuals etc He steered clear of controversies of MOI,age reduction for retirement,appointments on lecture basis, contract appointments, timings of school day, length of vacations,and various welfare and social schemes to win the masses which were a drain on resources of public funding of projects He never completed his term as CM due to various reasons but can be credited for bringing stability in Govt He destabilised parties to secure power by tact cunning and at times secret dossiers, intimidation and mild threats He practically encircled many A politicians for their sins of omission and commission He was thorough with his facts and figures as an intelligent person did his home work well He lost mining revenues his forte for development but succeeded in pouring of funds from centre. A lot of resources were lately confined to bridges starving funds for other infrastructure facilities. The selective attention towards development in constituencies of his party MLA and those of his allies indicated his partiality and bias unwelcome as CM of the State As Minister of Education he did push it to some heights of excellence by reformation Other central ministers like Edward Faleiro, Ramakant Kalap Naik never measured up to his achievements popularity respect and acceptance It will be longtime when some other Goan politicians rises above his shoulder as central and state leader Parikar had dwarfed all politicians of Goa on all parameters and will be recalled as man of masses who accomplished much in simplicity and humility of his personality Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
