This was raw humour indeed.

While part of Notre Dame was lost to fire, Indian monuments are just lost to 
encroachment and negligence.

Why let fire do it for you when laziness has the same result.

Lost heritage: India doesn't need to worry about a fire to destroy its heritage 
— that 'onerous' task is taken care of through encroachments which have 
resulted in the disappearance of several monuments. Worse, the Archaeological 
Survey of India (ASI), the sole guardian of the country's heritage, doesn't 
have the foggiest idea of how many monuments it has lost. While the ASI puts 
the number of missing monuments at 35, a CAG report back in 2014 had already 
listed 92 monuments as ‘missing’, aka, destroyed. The CAG report had only 
surveyed 1,655 ASI protected monuments, the total number for which stands at 
close to 3,700.
