It was only around 2012 I realized that it was happening in almost all Churches
except Cansaulim Church. Well, it was happening there too but stopped in 1950s
due to the egos of the gauncars or the casteists. I remember there were three
types of comfrad with three different colour opmus (opa mussa) viz Red
(Gauncars, Bamon, Chaddies), Blue (Sudras) White (Kunnbi gauddi etc)

Traditionally, it was Red Opa Mussa comfrad who took dead Jesus in the
procession but in late 50's other comfrad members started demanding that they
too be allowed in the procession to carry the casket and that's where the
problem started.  Since then, there is no act of bringing Jesus down the cross
nor any procession on the day

GL responds:
Instead of publishing the names of the parish priests of Cansaulim church and
the bishops of Goa, you should be publishing the names of the  real culprits -
the egotistic Gauncars.   The parish priests and bishops of Goa are their
victims as are the next generation of Goans including your generation who are
deprived of their cultural heritage.
Yet it is never too late to resurrect this Good Friday and other church
practices.  The generation of the 1950s have likely passed on; and now the
gauncars of Cansaulim are likely to be educated and much less likely to be
antiquated.
Perhaps all the men of Cansaulim may settle for just one big comfrad.  So that
this Cansaulim comfraed may be a happy group, they may as well at the same time
move into the 21st century by admitting the women of the village into the
comfrad; and be the first village in Goa to do so.
Make lemonade from a lemon!
