It was only around 2012 I realized that it was happening in almost all Churches
except Cansaulim Church. Well, it was happening there too but stopped in 1950s
due to the egos of the gauncars or the casteists. I remember there were three
types of comfrad with three different colour opmus (opa mussa) viz Red
(Gauncars, Bamon, Chaddies), Blue (Sudras) White (Kunnbi gauddi etc)

Traditionally, it was Red Opa Mussa comfrad who took dead Jesus in the
procession but in late 50's other comfrad members started demanding that they
too be allowed in the procession to carry the casket and that's where the
problem started.  Since then, there is no act of bringing Jesus down the cross
nor any procession on the day

In response to my posts on this thread,  I received a private communication
from another goanetter about how in his village the comfrad changed the
centuries-old practice.  Thanks to the daughter-in-law of the village (the wife
of the writer) the comfrad opened their admissions to women.  The progressive
daughter-in-law insisted that their son will not be inducted into the village
comfrad if their daughters were not also inducted.
Clearly change is possible thanks to some progressive Goans who are willing to
take a stand. Change is possible - not by the government, politicians or the
Church or writing posts on goanet, but by actions of each of us individually.
Thanks to JoeGoaUk's videos, if Caunsaulim comfrad does not change, we can look
forward to seeing some names and photographs of the casteists of his own
village in their full pious but hypocritical regalia.
Regards, GL
