PRESS RELEASE -

The Joseph Naik Vaz Institute, Berkeley California is dedicated to Peace,
Inter-religious understanding and humanitarian service among its other aims and
goals. With that important goal in mind, the Institute was pleased to sponsor
the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Ms. Leymah Gbowee's (pronounced "bowee" with
the "G" silent) visit to the San Francisco Bay Area last week where she worked
with our Board Member, George Pinto, in reaching a number of key organizations
and individuals in connection with her work. George Pinto also serves as a
Board member of the Gbowee Peace Foundation USA.

More information on Ms. Gbowee can be found at

Ms. Gbowee won the Nobel Peace Prize in part because of her inter-religious
outreach in bringing together Christians and Muslims and peacefully ending the
Liberian Civil War (although the conflict was not religious based, the
Christian and Muslim community came together to end the civil war). Ms. Gbowee
is possibly the only Nobel Peace Prize winner to be awarded the Prize in part
for her inter-religious work. The Joseph Naik Vaz Institute derives its
inspiration from the inter-religious experiences of Saint Joseph Vaz and his
humanitarian work. While Saint Joseph Vaz lived in Sri Lanka he was protected
and helped by other religions, a symbol of inter-religious harmony much needed
in today's world.
