To tie in with Eric’s post of a civet cat on top of his Goa house and Patrice’s
follow up of the high price coffee beans in civet poop would fetch, here’s a
milder narrative through an interesting vlog by the Gourmet Biker on the
operation of a family run coffee estate at Sakleshwar in Karnataka state
thorough 5 generations of owners-planters.

Coffee and tea plantation owners and managers, specially during the raj led the
high life, more luxurious than district collectors, though in recent years
they have been beset by labour problems caused by tea and coffee pickers led by
communist unions. It is not unusual for the estate managers to be violently
beaten up and even killed in wage dispute strikes in poorly managed properties.
