Minister for Garbage Management Michael Lobo has however insisted that he would go ahead with the construction of the plant, claiming that the latest technology would be used to set it up, which would do away with the fears of the Church as well as local residents related to health hazards and unhygienic conditions.
Waste management has emerged as a key issue in Goa, with the state travel and tourism industry facing flak on account of mismanagement of garbage which is strewn in public areas, including its world-famous beaches. ---------GL responds: I am all in favor of a garbage reprocessing plant in Goa. Given the confidence of the Minister for Garbage Management Michael Lobo, I would suggest that the plant be located in his village and perhaps in proximity to the minister's place of residence. The minster should love this proposal as it will bring jobs and economic development to his village. Additionally all the garbage trucks arriving to unload at the plant, using the latest technology, could pay a toll at the minster's residence in perpetuity. Regards, GL
