Subject: St. Joseph Vaz Basilica in Goa?
This is the first many of us have heard of this plan. Please share the
details. I couldn't find anything on google.
The Cathedral in Los Angeles was built at a great cost overrun by Cardinal
Mahoney. It's called the "Taj Mahoney." Gregory Peck is buried there. But at
least they hung a big tapestry of then "Fr. Joseph Vaz" even before he was
canonized, along with tapestries of other saints. The Oakland Cathedral, in
the middle of Oakland's economic, racial, gun violence woes, high
incarceration rates, was built for over $200 million and the Bishop is forever
begging for funds from parishes to pay just the interest. I guess Goans must
have their Taj "Bankroti" project and there are enough Goans willing to
bankroll their latest economic and religious folly in exchange for a place in
heaven. If you can't make a difference on earth, try for heaven!

in Kandy. Nor will you find him in a brand new basilica. When I want something
from a saint, I do not pray to him/her. All I do is flatter the saint. And the
biggest form of flattery (I know) is to imitate the saint?s lifestyle.
