The Editora Chiado requires a CIF/NIF number to accept orders. I understand
this is a TAX ID number for Portuguese citizens.
It would have cost $25 USD to have it shipped to me in the US but in any case
they would not accept the order without the CIF number.
Good news is that you can buy this book from the original original publication
in English :"The sting of peppercorns" from Amazon.com for about $7 USD!

The novel ?Nas Garras Do Destino" was simultaneous published in Portugal and
Brazil by a Portuguse publisher in Lisbon. The book can be purchased through
the on-line site of CHIADO EDITORA: Viagens na Ficc?o. It is also available on
the Portuguese online sites of Fnac, Bertrand and Wook. The novel is based in
Goa, and is the Portuguese translation of the 2nd edition of The Sting of
Peppercorns, originally published in New Delhi, India.
