Beyond the Grave Looking back at: Is Garbage Minister Michael Lobo Going to be First Chief Minister of Calungute State?
For the week which passed (17/7/21-14) when I was alive on Planet Earth. Jammu and Kashmir have been bifurcated - will Goa be next? A serious issue no doubt but Michael Lobo in his recent statement has once again displayed his brilliant mind and vision of the future. He criticises people who are against casinos and what is good for Goa. He says casinos are good for Goa, especially for newly married couples and families: they are an added attraction! Obviously, the Garbage Minister and Calungute MLA is far sighted and makes people and their representatives from other parts of Goa appear retarded by comparison or having an abysmally low level of education or understanding of international tourism. After he speaks in favour of casinos, he makes this statement: I am not promoting casinos. Deciphering the mind of Michael Lobo is no easy task but give the man his due credit. He deserves to be allowed to prove his mettle to people from other parts of Goa. Why do Goans have to display their crab-like mentality, and pull him down? He rightly claims some NGOs are against what is good for Goa. And - gambling - he says is an added attraction and is good for Goa! Now who can argue with this? Goa needs to be bifurcated immediately, without delay. And Garbage Minister Michael Lobo declared the first Chief Minister of Calungute State. Congratulations to the voters of Calungute for voting for him and raising the standard of our elected representatives. Gambling is an added attraction and is good for Goa, says the MLA. Drugs are also an added attraction and so is prostitution. Why not add two more? Aren’t they attractions, too? Other parts of Goa are not as advanced as Calungute, and here is another good reason for bifurcating Calungute from other parts of the State. Calungute already has an abundance of illegal drugs and prostitution as the MLA knows only too well but obviously it is no problem. It is good for business. And so, Goan crabs stop pulling the MLA down! Let us take a look at all three attractions. Drugs are bad as they destroy an individual, slowly damage body and mind finally leading to a sad end for the individual. He may even commit a crime to keep his drug habit going. Prostitution can give someone more than he bargained for, and today with all kinds of sexual diseases including HIV it is no picnic. The prostitute might infect the man who might infect others. Sometimes, the cure is simple and sometimes it is a death warrant. By contrast, gambling is harmless as people can only lose their fortune if they cannot control themselves; no doubt, it can destroy not only the gambler’s life but also his partner’s and children’s lives. Are they all bad or two are bad and one is good? Or one is bad and two are good? Whatever. To debate the issue or not to debate the issue is the question. I say, don’t debate! Have a surgical strike and presto - Calungute is a new State and and Michael Lobo - the first Chief Minister!
