Prior to being ordained, Father Romualdo was my teacher for one year, at St.
Paul's High School in Belgaum in the early 1950s. Even then he was brilliant
and inspiring. Two things that I learnt from him remain vividly etched in my
mind. The first was the concept of"thinking out of the box". The second
notion that he brought to our notice was that soundwaves remain in the air for
eternity. As an example he said that the soundwaves of Christ's teachings and
sermons remain in the air. If only we had the technology to sift through many
zillions of soundwaves to sort out and identify Christ's voice. Amazing
notion, that I never forgot.Indeed he was a brilliant personality but always
un-assuming and friendly. We are saying goodbye to a great Goan.

With the death of Fr. Romuald D’Souza, Goa stands academically and
intellectually impoverished. He was a great Goan who excelled in his vision
to enhance the educational levels in our State and the country. A very
unassuming tall personality he always was, ever so candid and never minced
words in all that he had to communicate.
Due to his tireless efforts he successfully steered the setting up of the
Goa Institute of Management at our Ribandar and propelled it to be a centre
of national repute. I recollect with admiration and gratitude that whenever
I visited him at his residence in the campus, he would himself make and
serve a cup of coffee. Memories of those interactions with the very
knowledgeable Fr Romuald will never fade away.
He also contributed significantly to the growth of many institutions in
Belgaum, Pune, Jamshedpur and Bhubaneswar. He was instrumental in
introducing the first health management MBA in the country.
Fr Romuald was always very positive and extremely inspiring. A very simple,
affable and down to earth soul he always was. Very soft-spoken but always
had a mind of his own with impeccable principles and a deep sense of
humility that is rarely seen today.
Persons of Fr Romuald’s calibre, integrity, humility and commitment are
rare in today’s times. The void in the field of Education and Management
may never be filled. May the soul of our dear Padma Shree Fr. Romuald
D’Souza who was called to his heavenly abode on All Saints Day rest in
eternal peace in the company of the Saints.
