GaunkarsFirst, a forum that champions the cause of native Goans, has
expressed its support to St. Cruz M.L.A. Smt. Victoria Fernandes in her
demand to be inducted into the State Cabinet.
This support has been extended to Smt. Fernandes because GaunkarsFirst
believes she has always championed causes that are close to hearts of Goans.
It is shameful that the Congress Party which is headed by a lady President,
fails to give due respect to the only lady M.L.A. in Goa from their Party
while rewarding defectors, tainted individuals and first-timers with
portfolios.
GaunkarsFirst would like to draw the attention of Goans to the fact that
Smt. Fernandes has played an important part in the Opinion Poll, the
anti-TCP Ordinance agitation, the anti-Regional Plan Movement, besides
taking up several other causes for Goans and Goan women over the years.
It may be recalled that in the last Assembly session she played a pivotal
role in forcing the State Government to withdraw the bill seeking to
illegally amend the Codigo das Comunidades (Code of Comunidades) which was a
blatant attempt to encroach upon the rights of Goans and Gaunkars of Goa and
steal their land clandestinely.
GaunkarsFirst also appeals to Smt. Fernandes to discontinue her fast as her
health is more valuable to the people of Goa. Instead, GaunkarsFirst offer
to extend her protest/agitation to the entire State through organizing a
chain hunger strike until she is given her due place in the State
Government.
