While many are awaiting the outcome of the Climate Change Conference in Madrid, Spain there others who are preparing a road map for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in their countries irrespective of the conference outcomes. Are the BMCs equipped to respond to disasters and their impact on the environment ? Have any lessons been learnt from the flash floods in Canacona in 2009 and the recent fires at the Sonsoddo garbage dump site ? If the BMCs need to have a systematic approach to identifying, assessing and reducing the risks of disaster, then what capacity building programs need to be organised in Goa ? How can the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction be localized in the context of the villages of Goa ? What plans need to be drawn up for 2020 to respond these challenges ? These are some of the questions that will be covered in the discussion.
