As was expected Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has once again fooled Goans and this time on the very crucial Mhadei issue. It was a blow to Goans on the eve of Liberation Day. Merely keeping in abeyance that environmental clearance given to Karnataka is no relief to Goa. It is just a diversionary tactic to buy time while the sword continues to hang over our State which is already water deficient. Goa had clearly and resolutely demanded withdrawal of that high-handed environmental clearance and was all along falsely promised a favourable response. It beggars belief that the Central Government and the CM Pramod Sawant continue to ignore the urgency that this long standing matter drags on with broken promises and deliberate procrastination.
Our battle on Mhadei has to be a do or die. We need to ensure that every precious drop is saved for the well being of Goans or else Posterity will never forgive us for having failed on the so vital Mhadei battle and allowed our lifeline to dry up and our ecology destroyed. In times when citizens are ready to stand up and assert their rights there can be no room for those in power to try and hoodwink the people by cheap politriks. Backdoor political machinations and manipulation is a sign of very bad governance. People’s faith in democracy dwindles when there is no constitutional morality and good governance with constitutional trust lacking.
