CLANDESTINE CHANGE OF ROAD NAMES I was surprised to see a new name for university road, at Dona Paula popularly known after Dr E Borges, cancer specialist. There was no debate in assembly, no demand by local population before the name was changed. I protest this high handed attitude. I have nothing against that saint Ambiye after whom the road is renamed. I am against suddenly changing names. By changing names, we do not change history. Moreover, Dr Ernesto Borges road was a fitting name for the road because the cancer hospital (now called Manipal Hospital) is located on that very road in Dona Paula plateau. Is there an agenda behind these name changes? Why is it secretly done? Before changing the name of any road an official notification has to be issued as per the standard procedure. Has this notification been issued or is this a surreptitious way to sidetrack and throwing the rule book away? Government must give justification of not adhering the rule.
