PROHIBITORY ORDERS AT THE DROP OF A HAT Section 144 which among other things prohibits assembly of 3 or 4 persons, cannot be imposed without very good and credible reasons and for long periods, but it has been used by this government to generally deny the right to peaceful protest or selectively as per the police or governments whims and fancies.This has now been misteriously declared all over north Goa till April 10th, with reportedly the police and Tourism minister kept in the dark. Further the CM says it is routine and will not effect marriages and public functions like Carnival and Shigmo. Since it is causing panic due stated terror threat intelligence, he will see whether it can be lifted. The minister Michael Lobo reportedly says it has been issued to prevent people from holding peaceful anti or for CAA meetings and the north Goa magistrate says it was essentially to impose tenant verification!Cutting off the internet and imposing section 144 for long periods is the favourite of the central government despite courts frowning on it! This prevents lawful protests, the sine qua non of a democracy and takes away our freedom. People's cries of Azadi are not "from India but in India" for enabling everyone to hold their heads high without fear and to propound any opinion in complete democratic freedom as enshrined in the Constitution! In fact it is illegal and anti national to prevent anyone from doing so? Dispite the Delhi elections result slap on the face from the horrible communal bad mouthing derogatory election propaganda from all the big guns of the BJP from PM downwards, and anti CAA protests all over India and States passing resolutions not to implement it, the PM rules out rethink on CAA. So what is there to discuss if its my way or the highway. Fiscal mismanagement and Celular/ internet dangerous mess can wait but Ram temple and Hindutva right on fast track!
