While many office buildings have closed as a precautionary measure,
what about the staff that takes care of cleaning, maintenance and all?
If their pay is calculated on a daily wage basis, then they stand to
lose pay. Microsoft in the US has announced it won't cut pay of its
daily wage employees who are losing out on work because of
work-from-home imposed because of Corona.
But what's the scene in India?
Office complexes provide money to many people, such as the chai wala
that makes a living by selling tea, coffee, snacks etc in these office
buildings. The cigarette seller. With offices closed, these guys are
losing out on a lot of money every day. Let's think on these lines.

Armstrong Vas,
24% of the workers in the US have no sick leave. Yep, 24%. These workers are
concentrated in the service industry i.e. serving people coffee, food, drinks,
etc. Believe you me, these people keep going to work when they experience the
first symptoms of any communicable disease. The same workers can hardly afford
missing their wages for the few hours they need to see a doctor and I can
assure you, they return to their service jobs while taking the medication - to
cure their communicable affliction. It is going to be interesting, real
interesting watching the stable genius, Donald Trump, fumble with this
situation.

Secondly, I guess panic has not hit Goa yet. Here in Texas people have stopped
buying fresh products and meats. The suppliers of the same are getting
desperate - watching their product rot.  This afternoon I got a call from my
Indian grocer asking me to come by and buy rice and dried beans before they ran
out of the same. I told him to pack a box and when I arrived to collect it,
there were 10 times the amount of people I usually see in that shop.
