As COVID-19 is galloping Goa needs to seriously and swiftly get its act together and create the entire infrastructure required to combat this dreaded pandemic.
After having slept over this for the last few months, now on a priority we need to set up enough quarantine units to isolate and house those suspected of being infected with the virus and the others who have interacted or socialized with those infected. The land casinos and those in the Mandovi could be acquired by the government for this. We need to also urgently procure a lot of ventilators. The factory at Pune may not part with their stock as Maharastra itself is short of them with now themselves having a lot of COVID -19 cases. Getting ventilators from Russia may be a viable option. It is imperative that we ensure the health and safety of all the Doctors, nurses, support and ward staff who are so bravely and selflessly attending to all the patients of this mind boggling epidemic. They must be given all the safety gear required. The government should without any hesitation pour all its available resources to combat COVID-19. Needless projects like the Manaohar Parrikar memorial at Miramar must be scrapped. We need to get our priorities right. We cannot be pouring our scarce resources on Memorials and Statues. At the moment battling COVID-19 relentlessly should be our one and only priority. Together we shall overcome this unprecedented crisis.
