Having time on my hands during these days of "forced imprisonment", and while Elsie is in a Care Home, I've been delving through my archives and came across this poem I'd composed in 2005 - which I'd like to share with you all. Apologies if I'm boring you all.
Mervyn Maciel *TRY AND UNDERSTAND-By Mervyn Maciel* Why do we always find it hard? To understand those who mean no hurt Who in their own way try to safeguard Peace and tranquillity, without losing their shirt? Discussions, arguments, call them what you may Are healthy signs to get things off your chest? They need encouragement and patience, I say, So that any misunderstandings can be laid to rest! But why is it that we can’t understand, The other persons point of view? And why, oh why do we take a stand That makes it hard to start life anew? As human mortals, we oft must fail To see the beam in our very own eyes In times like these, we need to hail The good in others-that’s where true truth lies! Our pride is hurt when our faults are revealed ‘Cause we’re always pointing the finger at “them”; But how oft do we own up when truth is concealed And we’re made aware that our neighbour’s a gem? So lets all strive to understand And not always want to have our way This way we’ll be lending a helping hand To those who must also have
