Dear Cyprian, Your response reminds me of part of the nursery rhyme that went “yes Sir, yes Sir, three bags full, Sir” where our colonial Masters had to be obeyed for fear of losing employment or worse still not being awarded those sought after or cherished promotions. Interestingly, not much seems to have changed today as can be seen in this article titled “Ashamed of Speaking in Konkani” by Avita Gonsalves who has made some interesting observations especially in relation to educated youth.
