‘I’ll Come Back Home’ from her 1989 album Welela is a Swahili-Xhosa freedom
song that is sung by Miriam Makeba. Makeba’s rendering is with the joy and hope
of freedom rather than the song’s usual emotion of mourning to protest again
apartheid and Boer rule.

“I am a drunk because of the Whites
I am homeless because of the Whites
I am a hobo because of the Whites
Run White Man”

Makeba who died in 2008 after experiencing the freedom she sought after, was in
South Africa’s oppressed times a social activist who fought for human rights.
She was much revered and brought her music to worldwide appreciation.
