“Corta Jaca” (Cut The Jackfruit) is performed by Lysia Condé to a Brazilian samba beat.
Corta Jaca is a set of steps in the traditional Brazilian dance ‘Maxixe’ which itself (as the second link below shows), is a blend of the White man’s polka with the Black Brazilian’s lundu. The song comes from a tango composed in 1895 by Chiquinha Gonzaga for a burlesque operetta ‘Gaúcho’ which was renamed Corta Jaca. Cut the Jackfruit has sexual innuendo in the Brazilian context just like Kator Re Baji (without meaning to) has in Konkani.
